AMD 1

Letzte Wochenende habe ich nach Crystal Mountain gegangen. About 10 friends and I decided to go skiing for MLK weekend. Some of my friends from out east were surprised to see that, in general, skiing in Michigan ist sehr schlecht; we don't have real mountains. I decided that I was curious about skiing and snowboarding in Germany, considering that their geography would allow for tons of available mountains.

Mann kann in Deutschland in die Alpen skilaufen. The alps are in the southern part of Germany, in the Bavaria region, and this is where most of the ski resorts are. From the research I did, there appears to be a lot of resorts situated all throughout the German Alps, but many are closer to Munich than they are to any major German cities.

Also something that I found out is that there are many ski resorts are actually outside of the Alps. In fact, one of the most famous destinations in Germany, a ski resort called Black Forest, is actually in north central Germany, outside of the major mountain range. Still, these places make any ski area in Michigan pale in comparison. I looked at pictures of some of these places, and they are totally different than anywhere I've skied in the US, even Colorado and Utah. Most of these places have actual gondolas instead of chair lifts. Many of their slopes are World Cup licensed and they dedicate a lot of these places in the main ski season to serious competition.

Skiing or snowboarding in Germany is now something I think I'd really like to do.
