Hallo und willkommen!
In Diesen(m?) tag habe ich ein anderer blog gelesen (geliest? Ich weiß nicht!)
Anyway... Sie heißt Rebecca, und sie war eine Studentin (Geh Blau!)
Her blog was written in a very open way, and I was impressed with how openly and frank (Perhaps a better word is blunt) she was in describing her experiences there. Es gefällt mir, aber ich kann nicht zusammen (Well... I think that also means "same... if not, es tut mir leid...) machen!
As mentioned in the blog suggestion, she originally starts with talking about preparing to go, though admittedly most of my attention was caught more on lines like "These aliens actually looked like a pomegranates cut in half with legs, and they were telepathic and mean." than what is more pertinent for the blog, but I guess that is the mark of an interesting read!
I focused more on reading her initial posts on acclimating to Germany, and from the second post in Germany two things stuck out in my head. 1) She reminded me that using a dryer is less popular in Germany (I had heard this from friends who lived there before that drying the clothing is more popular, but it didn't really stick...) and 2) The businesses WILL close on Sunday- that I'm torn between liking and disliking, but overall I feel it's probably more beneficial than not.
On the other hand, I really do have to hope that the mayo problem (where they pour a gratuitous amount of mayo onto a sandwich as part of a sauce) is an exaggeration, otherwise I will die a little inside. (I have to agree with Rebecca inasmuch as Mayonnaise is disgusting, and having "most of the bottle" emptied onto a sandwich would just dishearten me alot.
And while I probably could continue talking more about her posts, but I will just have to say I appreciate the vitality she puts into her little anecdotes of the week- in particular, Polish hippies dancing around a car at a gas station has almost nothing to do with German culture (or so i've been lead to believe) but it sure spices up her blog nicely! (To be fair, she did try to tie it into showing that Freiburg is like an international nexus of culture that is separate but in the same area, but... yea. Good story at least!)
Well, see you next week!
Tschüss!
(PS: I greatly enjoy umlauts working...)
