Hallo und willkommen zu meinen blog!
Diesen Woche habe Ich Musik gehört (ist das richtig?)
Well anyway, moving along... One of my favorite [German-Speaking] bands is Lil Rain, and I decided to look at one of their songs in more detail this week! (And found out that the tone and beat of the song, which I always thought was melancholy, definitely fit the bill when translating!)
I listened to the song "Tränen aus Wasser", of which I had to look up the word "Tränen" which means "tears". What surprised me though, is how much more of the lyrics I was able to understand. (Progress!) I was able to get the general idea behind each line of the song, though a word to word translation did require gratuitous use of online dictionaries and other translators, I was just pleased to see I could muddle my way through the song. (Albeit now when I hear that song it just sounds even more depressing... :|)
A sample of the chorus-like part of the song follows (because posting the entire song's lyrics and typing a translation of each line would take way too long):
Tränen aus Wasser - Tears of (from?) Water
das Herz aus Blut. - Heart of blood
Die Seele aus Feuer - The soul aflame
das Gefühl voller Wut. - Feelings of anger
Den Schmerz zu leben - The pain of living
hast du mir gegeben. - You have given [to me]
Die Lust zu lieben - The desire to love
hast du mir genommen. -You took from me
After seeing that translation, the song is significantly more depressing in my mind, but... well, at least it's progress!
P.S. I also finally found out why the alphanumeric input system for inserting umlauts wasn't working. (Alt + 3 or 4 digit combination to create a umlaut- Mouse keys was preventing it.)
