I found it very interesting to read about the lack of German flags and patriotism in Germany. After reading this article I tried to think of a time when I saw any German flags while I lived in Berlin. Unfortunately, the only time I can remember is when one was painted (graffiti) on a part of the Berlin wall. I also found it hard to think of anytime during which any of my German friends talked or demonstrated patriotism in the way we do here in America. While it is understandable that the dark past of Germany will always bear a weight on the presence of German patriotism, one may ask if their public patriotism will ever return. You never see or hear Germans chanting or screaming their country's name at domestic events as you frequently see Americans doing. Nonetheless, it is interesting to think and ask if time will be enough to ease the weight of German's dark past with regards to German Patriotism.
