AMD 5- John Fuerst

Für diese AMD habe ich der Märchen, “Rapunzel” von die Brüder Grimm gelesen. Er war sehr interessant und ich habe viel gelernt über den Narrative Past. Reading “Rapunzel” in German offered an excellent opportunity to practice the narrative past, to compare German to American folklore and to have fun. I was only mildly familiar with “Rapunzel” before reading the Grimm brothers rendition, and could immediately recognize that this version, as with many other fairytales, is far more violent and depressing than Disney’s adaptation. The fact that the prince, having cast himself from Rapunzel’s tower in fear of the sorceress holding her captive, was blinded by thorns and was left to crawl about the forest eating grass for years before finally finding Rapunzel was very disturbing. I found that with a solid knowledge of the narrative past, I was able to understand the story fully, only struggling with some obscure antiquated vocabulary. I plan to look through the list of Märchenen I found and to read through some whose stories I am familiar with. I found this to be an interesting activity. Stay safe from the Tornado!
