I appreciated the German timeline and thought that it was a great way to get a quick grasp of 20th century German history. I liked that it included events which were important on the domestic scene and may not be well known outside Germany. It is interesting that such things as social demonstrations and political conspiracies occurred in Germany, while similar things were occurring in America. Some of the things that I found most interesting on the timeline were that the eastern bloc established the Warsaw Pact a mere 5 days after the Western countries created NATO. That in 1968 left-wing groups both committed “terrorist attacks” and organized massive anti-war demonstrations, within 2 weeks of each other. The actual fall of the wall also seems interesting, what did the thousands of East Germans do after “pouring into West Germany”? Also, after the relatively long period of majority status throughout Europe it is significant that the moderate left has been replaced by the moderate right. The timeline says “the voters reward Schröder’s opposition to the Iraq War” and reelected him in 2002, yet liberalization continued and the SDP lost its majority to the CDU. Also, I thought it unusual that two anti-war demonstrations were included in the timeline, despite the affairs having little relevance to Germans.
