Kultur 11 - Anna Schwiebert

Germany has had a very interesting and complicated history. From the timeline one can see what a process it has been for Germany since the end of World War II. There was so much that it went through as a nation during the 1900s that it is sad to see that there is still some unrest. I knew that there was some what a division between parts of the country but I had no idea that that division was so strong. One would hope that as more time passes that these differences could fade away and Germany could but truly reunite. But, if the article is correct and the youth are now taking up the old ideas, then that does not seem that the prejudices and stereotypes will soon be lifted.

It's interesting that the issue has greatly do to do with North and the South. It seems that there may have been some serious cultural differences between the two long before the wall was built in Berlin. As the article said the North is mainly Protestants while the South is heavily Catholic. Sadly religious differences can often cause separations by themselves. I wonder how much
these sorts of differences play into the overall feeling that the North and the South have about each other.

Ostagie is a really interesting idea. Hopefully people can move past feeling a longing for the past and can move on to working on the future.
