Exploring German through Reddit

Before I started thinking about my AMD, I did what I usually do when I get on a computer - check reddit. It then occurred to me that reddit, with its vast amount of subreddits, might have a place for me to learn some German. From here I found the subreddit 'Piratenpartei': http://www.reddit.com/r/piratenpartei. After going through a few different posts, trying to get an idea of what it was all about, I took a look at the German Wikipedia page on the Piraten Partei. After some translating, I learned that the Piraten Partei is a political party in Germany that supports internet privacy and open source governance. Open source governance is essentially when any citizen can go online and monitor what is going on in the government. The party was founded in 2006 by Sebastian Nerz. Naturally, they occupy a very small percentage of political offices, only having 15 members in regional parliaments, and no members in the Bundestag or European parliament.
