The first article on German supermarkets is more comical than interesting, although there were some neat tid bits. Everything that is not of German origin in the supermarkets is labeled as “American style”. The things we call “shopping carts” here are apparently called “trolleys” (this could just be due to the influence of the author). Although there is a clear negative view throughout the piece, the author still seems to find humor in his troubles.
I personally found the second web page quite interesting. We think it is very normal to see web pages and blogs explaining how to cook foreign food, but rarely do we think about the food we eat here in the United States. Especially funny to me was seeing an article on what to cook at a super bowl party.
The third article, and my personal favorite, was written about how to survive on German roads. There were lots of interesting features about the Autobon, driving mannerisms and law enforcement. In an effort to keep Germany clean and pollution-free, it is important that you don’t keep your car running if you are waiting for someone. In the case that you do make this mistake, it is quite likely that a native will come by and kick your car!
The last article was about waiting in German lines. Again, it is not so informative as it is comical. A word of advice from the article states that German’s don’t like the smell of garlic; if you don’t want to be bothered in line simply eat some beforehand!
