Für diese AMD habe ich die Bible auf Deutsch erhalten. (von dieser Website). Ich habe etwas von dem Johannes-Evangelium gelesen. Das Johannes-Evangelium ist sehr schön und poetisch. I chose the Bible because it is the most widely-known book every written, and it is very easy to obtain online. Here is the first bit of the Gospel of John in German, spliced with my English reconstruction (I didn't use an English Bible for help. My reconstruction is based only on the German and my memory of the English text).
Im Anfang war das Wort, und das Wort war bei Gott, und Gott war das Wort. Dasselbe war im Anfang bei Gott.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. It was with God in the beginning.
Alle Dinge sind durch dasselbe gemacht, und ohne dasselbe ist nichts gemacht, was gemacht ist.
Through Him all things were made, and without him nothing is made which has been made.
In ihm war das Leben, und das Leben war das Licht der Menschen. Und das Licht scheint in der Finsternis, und die Finsternis hat's nicht begriffen.
In him was life, and the life was the light of the people. And the light shined in the [darkness?], and the [darkness] did not [?].
Es ward ein Mensch von Gott gesandt, der hieß Johannes. Dieser kam zum Zeugnis, daß er von dem Licht zeugte, auf daß sie alle durch ihn glaubten.
Now there lived a man of God who was called John. [He came to _?, so that all may believe.]
Er war nicht das Licht, sondern daß er zeugte von dem Licht.
He was not the light, but he bore witness to the light.
Das war das wahrhaftige Licht, welches alle Menschen erleuchtet, die in diese Welt kommen. Es war in der Welt, und die Welt, ist durch dasselbe gemacht; und die Welt, kannte es nicht.
He was the truest light, which all men seek, come into this world. He was in the world, and the world is made through Him; and the world [?].

Since I didn't look up any vocabulary, it's a very sloppy translation. I did recognize the use of relative clauses and subordinate clauses. Although the language is different, the text still has that distinct Biblical syntax to it.
