AMD 3

I returned back to my hometown this weekend to catch up with some friends and relax with my family so my AMD options were more limited than usual. Nevertheless, I found an activity that would be both fun and improve the aspects of my German I need the most work on(speaking and listening). My best friend, Daniel, has a girlfriend who's entire family speaks German. I went over there with him to spend a Saturday afternoon and then have dinner. At first the family wasn't aware I could speak German so everyone spoke English to each other. Then Daniel got into an argument with his girlfriends mother and she started speaking German to the father and as I listened a smile grew on my face. She talked very fast, but one thing I caught was "Das tut mir Leid". After the argument cooled off a little I said "Du weisst, das Daniel Deutsch sprechen kann, richtig?" The look on the mother's face was priceless. She momentarily considered the possibility than Dan had kept this a secret and quickly moved on to asking me a million questions auf Deutsch of course. We talked primarily in German the rest of the time I was there, which was very annoying to Daniel, but the whole family really helped me work on pronunciation and my listening skills improved also. At the end of the dinner they invited me back over whenever and seeing as the food was delicious and the company was good, I will make these dinners a regular event.
