FOOD
For this AMD I went to chefkock.de and looked up some recipes. I started off with American recipes, just in German, this way I might have a better idea of what some of the ingredients were. It makes it easier to guess anyways. I found a delicious recipe for giant peanut butter cups calling for Butter, Puderzucker, and Erdnussbutter. It goes on to describe how to make these delicious sounding treats, which I could mostly understand. I'm not sure, however, whether this is just because I know how to make them or because I actually understand what the recipe was saying. After browsing through about ten more American style recipes I switched over to the German cuisine. This was a bit harder for me. Perhaps some of the ingredients were more closely related to German cooking, hence why I had never heard of them before. I looked up a recipe for some sort of German sweet bread (at least that's what I understood from the ingredients and picture) and could only understand a few of the ingredients. Zucker, Margarine, and Milch. Another way I could tell that this was a sweet bread was because it called for a Glasur and a Fulling to be made, or a glaze and filling respectively. I thought this AMD was an interesting one to research because of my interest and experience in the cooking field. Cooking can be seen as a sort of universal language while at the same time incorporating the recipes specific culture into the dish. I think as soon as I have access to a stove I will be cooking some of this German sweet bread!
