I liked the article on the challenge of spending money in Germany and I think it would be a beneficial addition, if implemented not to an extreme, in America. I think that it reveals a priority for social values over economic values and shows the ability for German society to control their economy, and not let the economy control them. Being a conditioned American who regularly keeps strange hours, a policy like that in Germany would be a huge influence on my daily routine, and I cannot say that it would be smooth, but I think overall it is good for the culture. The Dinner for Who article was very surprising and I am at a loss to explain how the phenomenon could have occurred. I think it shows an appreciation for British humor, but the intensity of the ritual and the specific choice of the skit are confusing. The Father’s Day article was very interesting and I liked the idea of it. I think the major distinction is that in America we celebrate Father’s Day by celebrating a father, as a father; in Germany the father is celebrated, as a human being. I like the underlying theme of the German Father’s Day more, and I think it more accurately achieves the goal of the day.
