I found the video of "Dinner for One" to be hillareous. I found the fact that it is such a big hit in Germany all the mor entertaining. The classic bit of black and white slap stick was perfectly timed and executed and made me truely enjoy watching it. I can see why it is such a big hit in Germany. What I also found interesting was the fact that the Germans think it is such a big hit elsewhere in the world. They believe that since they enjoy the film so much others would as well. I am sure that if more people were exposed to this wonderful little film they would find it funny however it has not made nearly as large a debue in the rest of the world as the Germans belive. I find that this is similar to movies and cultural references in America, we think that the rest of the western world watches much of the same movies as we do and participates in a similar global culture. When I was in Serbia I watched "The Dark Knight" in theaters, in English. It certainly seems from our perspective that the rest of the world follows our trends; but the Germans think the same about themselves. Reading this article has shown me that the more things change and the more I learn about the culture of another country the more similar our view points appear to be.
