Kultur 10 - Ben Oztalay

Every culture has widespread traditions like watching Dinner For One on New Year's Eve. I know that I've watched A Christmas Story every Christmas of my life, and people get into it much like those in Germany that cook the meal and play the parts. I wouldn't expect there to be much to do surrounding a 10-minute skit, but I'm sure you could find something.

Germany's laws on when stores can and can't be open are a bit surprising, only because social norms were codified like that. If it were that store owners simply didn't open on Sundays and other times, it would be different, but it may be taking it took far for there to be laws about that sort of thing. I imagine that many employers in Germany have to be flexible, so that their employees can get a few things done during the day when the stores are open. I would imagine that social pressure will move the hours of operation to more convenient times, since Germany seems to be becoming more flexible.
