Guten Morgen!
Fur mein AMD fur Kapital 9 ich habe uber Viennese gelesen. Es ist nicht similar aus Deutsch. Ich kann die (phrases) nicht gelesen, aber ich danke es ist interessant. When I was staying in Northern Italy with my friend whose family is from there every little village that we went to had it's own local language that was so unique that even if you spoke Italian or another local language you probably wouldn't understand it. Sadly many of these local languages were dying out. The younger generation was not interested in keeping up the dialects of their home towns. I think that it is great that Viennese has become something that is considered "cool." I think that in order for such a small and individual language like these to survive in the modern world it has to have some element of the this "cool" factor. Since it had all these fun phrases it is a little like a club and who wouldn't want to be in the know. I did some research online and on the phrase book from the homework website. There are some really interesting phrases.
Some of my personal favorites:
I don't care! = Is mia do wuascht!
Excuse me, is this the hill where Julie Andrews sang at the beginning of "Sound of Music"? = D'schuidigung. Is des des Beagl wo di Tschuli Endruhs aum aunfaung vun "te Saund of Mjusic" gsunga hot?
This can't be a wienerschnitzel. It doesn't look anything like a hot dog. = Des is ka Weanaschnitzl. Des schaut aus wia a Wiaschtl im Schlabbaloppn
I'm not sure that all the phrases in the phrase book would be practical, but it was really interesting to see the differences from the German that we have learned. I can already tell that if I encountered a native speaker speaking quickly, what little German I have learned would probably not be much help to me.
