AMD 4- Ben Lemisch

For this AMD I listened to more Schubert. Listening to him and the other composers in class has been one of my favorite activities so I wanted to hear more. Listening to music in any language is easier than trying to read a passage in that language since the tone and melody of the piece guides you through the music. I was surprised how much of the lyrics I was able to understand though, not only from Der Erlkonig, which we listened to in class but also from Die Forelle and Death and the Maiden. I prefer to have the music accompanying the lyrics because it is easier to gain the context of the music with the music as a guide. Schubert has become one of my favorite classical composers because of the way he took bad poetry and set it to his music. I enjoyed doing this for my AMD because it allowed me to keep the music playing in the background while studying for other courses as well, multi tasking is always a good thing. Overall I believe that listening to Schubert has helped my comprehension of German and is genuinely enjoyable.
