Kultur 9 - Taylor Gray

The articles for Kultur 9 were just as fascinating as past ones have been. Beginning with the discussion about how Germans must keep nearly everything in the form of a hard-copy document was a bit odd but nonetheless a very "German" thing to do. I know I would struggle with just the organizational aspect of keeping all of the paperwork, let alone having it all prepared for the necessary situation. Thank God for the simple American resume and the power of email, otherwise I would be in a bit of a pickle if I were stuck in Germany.
The other article I found a bit amusing was the one entitled "Love Thy Neighbor: German Law Tells You How." Before reading the article I had an inkling that German neighborhoods might be a bit bizarre in comparison to your average American one. But after reading about how some cases have gone to court including the croaking of frogs and the barking of dogs, it was confirmed that some instances proved even more strange that I expected. Some of the rules and regulations are similar to those here in the U.S., but taking some of these situations all the way to court seems a bit unnecessary. If I were living in Germany and looking for a place to live, I would not only look at the neighborhood but also the individuals living in it. Personal interviews to see which neighbors "pass" might be a necessary action before determining where home is!
