I apologize for the mix up, but I accidentally read the articles for the Kapitel 10 assignment. I will post my Kapitel 9 assignment soon.
The first article was about the German obsession with a British comedy skit titled Dinner for One. Similar to The Sound of Music for Americans, the rest of the world hardly even knows about the skit, but has immense popularity in Germany. Every New Year ’s Eve, every family crowds around their TV to see one of the thousands of showings of the skit that evening. Amazingly, it has earned the record for the most TV airings of any show of all time, yet if one asks any American, Englishman, or anyone besides a German or Australian what they think of Dinner for One, you’ll just get a blank stare. “Dinner for who?”
The second article was a very interesting piece discussing the lack of available stores and diners open late enough in the evening to satisfy any late night cravings. In Germany, most stores are closed by 6 PM; this would be thought of as financial suicide in the US. Even more surprisingly, almost every company honors the Sabbath, despite not being of Jewish or Christian descent. The situation apparently is getting a little better as more and more Turkish families are opening late night shops and stores.
