AMD 4

For this AMD, I decided to do a little research in regards to the popular fairy tale "Hansel and Gretel," which comes from a German origin. It turns out that many German and other Baltic States have many a folk lore and fairy tales like "Hansel and Gretel," including "Hop-o-my thumb" and "Clever Cinders." The similarity lies in the way the children find their way back home by following some sort of trail they left themselves, along with the death of the witch. The earliest of these works "Hop-o-my-thumb" by Charles Perroult can be traced all the way back to 1697. "Hansel and Gretel," however, cannot be said to have officially existed until it was recorded by the Grimm brothers in 1812. It came to be such a popular cultural staple that the story was even converted to Opera in 1893. Since 1812, many variations have come about. In a few their father is seen a good parent and it is the fault of the mother that the children run away. In others, both parents are terrible. In still others, the mother is in collaboration with the evil witch in an attempt to kill or get rid of the children. Regardless of the version, it is a classic tale that has been around for many centuries.
