Kultur 10 - Anna Schwiebert

It seems like every time I read these articles it wants to make me go visit Germany more and more. Now I definitely think that going to German in the winter, around Christmas time, would be the perfect time to go. The Christmas markets sound like they would be really interesting to visit. It reminded me of Frankenbooth in Michigan, I haven’t been to that town since I was a kid but it has a huge German community and I know that they have lots of stores that sell Christmas goods. If I actually got to German I would also have to go down and visit the Swiss. From the particular blogs that I read it seemed like there are some serious adventures to be had. I’m not sure that I want to take part in the parasailing or skydiving. Although, I guess jumping out over the Alps is one of the best skydiving experiences to be had. I think I am content just to hike and enjoy the waterfalls around Bern.
As always, too, these articles seem to contain such huge stereotypes. Do all Germans really watch “Dinner for One” every New Years Eve? It’s interesting that it has never even been aired here in the States if it is so popular. It is good to know that on the whole many German stores close earlier. I actually think that that is really nice, especially for the workers. It just takes a little more planning, but if any nation can plan I suppose the Germans can handle managing those details. Unfortunately if I go to Germany in the winter I suppose I will end up missing Father’s Day. I can’t say that I am very disappointed. While that might be a nice holiday for the fathers out there, if the article is accurate, then I think I can miss it. German Christmas and Switzerland, both on my list of places and things I need to see!
