I found the topics this chapter interesting since I am a history major and I have studied a lot of this time period. Especially since there was such contrasting views on whether the reunification was good or not. I am currently taking a Polish history course and we've been learning about this same time period and a lot of Poles held the same views as Lutz about job security after the fall of Communism.
In my recent trip to Germany I visited both the east and the west. There are still few signs that haven't been updated. Most of the traffic signs have changed for walking and not walking, but you can still buy T-shirts with the distinct East German walk-light signals.
